For the winter and spring terms of 2026, The College of Arts and Sciences Department of Cinema Studies is hosting Filmlandia, a film series focused on films made in or about Oregon.

Oregon’s rich — and surprising — film heritage is the focus of a new film series, Filmlandia, from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Department of Cinema Studies. Filmlandia will run over two terms starting in winter 2026 with seven screenings that spotlight Oregon’s unmistakable cinematic fingerprints. The films range from major studio films shot on the state’s striking landscapes to independent works shaped by Indigenous storytelling, regional histories and local creative communities. Spring 2026 will feature seven more films yet to be announced.

“Filmlandia highlights the unique and wide-ranging kinds of film made in and about Oregon,” said Peter Alilunas, series co-curator and associate professor of cinema studies in CAS. “The uniqueness of our state has always been visible on the screen, across genres and decades. We created this series to revisit some of these incredible films and bring the community together to celebrate them the way they were intended to be seen: on the big screen.”

Each screening in Winter 2026 is free and open to the public, with one special event hosted at Eugene’s Art House Theater that is free to those with a University of Oregon ID. Filmlandia invites students, faculty, filmmakers and community members to experience Oregon cinema in a communal big-screen setting.
