Creating a Future Forward CAS

Higher education faces new challenges—from rising costs and a perceived declining return on investment to evolving workforce demands. CAS Dean Chris Poulsen is leading the charge on a new strategy to establish CAS as an innovator and leader in liberal arts education. With a strategic plan, Poulsen sees CAS as a place to prepare students to meet the challenges of a 21st-century world, equipping them with skills and knowledge to set them up for changing workplaces and to excel as global citizens.

Meet the Latinx Cluster Hire: Guillem Belmar Viernes

LINGUISTICS - The College of Arts and Sciences is investing in its Latinx studies courses by hiring nine new tenure-track faculty members. Meet Guillem Belmar Viernes, who is joining the Department of Linguistics. After working as a foreign language teacher in Catalonia, Guillem Belmar Viernes was inspired by language revitalization efforts to pursue a PhD at University of California, Santa Barbara.

While fighting cancer UO alum proves the power is in your mind

When Damon Jones '84 was diagnosed with cancer, he was determined to make some dreams come true. One of those dreams was reviving "The Last Dragon," a stage production he was part of in his last year in the Theatre Department at University of Oregon. Through sheer determination he pulled together the majority of the original cast, and they are staging it live in Portland Aug. 8-10, 2024.
