Ready to investigate the answers to your burning questions? Research is a vital part of your student experience at the University of Oregon, and it’s never too soon to get started. Many students find research opportunities through coursework, networking, and by directly contacting faculty members. Plus, there are many resources available to help folklore and public culture majors conduct research.
Oregon Folklife Network
Folklore and Public Culture collaborates closely with The Oregon Folklife Network (OFN) in connection with the Museum of Natural and Cultural History. Folklore students receive special internships: Oregon Folklife Network provides a range of opportunities to aspiring and early-career folklorists. Undergraduate and graduate students have options for unpaid, credit-bearing internships and practica, paid work study, and graduate employment. Recent graduates with folklore master's degrees can apply for one-term fellowships and contract fieldwork positions.
OFN documents, supports, and celebrates Oregon's diverse cultural traditions and tradition-bearers. OFN conducts fieldwork research and works with communities, organizations, and Tribes to increase public awareness about Oregon’s living traditional arts and cultural heritage. The Oregon Folklife Network serves as a hub for statewide folklife activities in partnership with the Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Cultural Trust, Oregon Historical Society, Oregon State Library, and Oregon Heritage Commission, along with community partners including Tribes, community-based cultural organizations, museums, regional cultural alliances, local arts agencies, K-12 schools, universities and colleges, and public libraries.
Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program
The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) encourages and supports undergraduate research and creative scholarship across all academic disciplines. Seek out faculty mentors, find guidance to help you get started, and discover resources for funding your own research.
Center for Undergraduate Research and Engagement
The Center for Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE) serves as a campus hub for undergraduate students to pursue advanced learning opportunities in research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. CURE offers funding support for research and experiential learning and creates opportunities for students to showcase their research.
