Students in our program acquire many skills that are valuable in many careers that require oral and written communication, editing and publishing, critical and analytical thinking, cultural analysis, and creative problem solving.
Alongside major degrees in English, history, Romance languages or psychology, a minor in creative writing will signal students’ expertise in written expression and imaginative thinking no matter what field they enter after graduation. For those interested in pursuing an MFA in creative writing, the creative writing minor will offer a significant credential of their focused study in poetry, fiction, and/or nonfiction in the undergraduate curriculum.
In addition to advising within the Creative Writing Program, there are many campus resources to help guide your career search.
Hone Your Craft
“What was most valuable and thrilling about my MFA at UO is that my learning didn’t end. I am still discovering more about syntax, about the relationship between lyric and narrative, and poetic closure and sequences. I gained more than a body of knowledge at UO, I developed the essential tools for deepening my understanding of poetry and for honing my craft. Watching my professors facilitate this was a master class in pedagogy.”
—Tina Mozelle Braziel, MFA in poetry, '13
