Student Groups

The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies program sponsors films, lectures, plays, musical performances, and cultural festivals to enrich your academic experience. See or perform in a bilingual play. Taste some borscht or pelmeni at a REEES club event. Everyone is welcome to join REEES-sponsored activities.

The University of Oregon campus is also home to more than 300 student groups you can join. Look for a club that sparks your interest—or start your own!

Dobro Slovo

The REEES program sponsors the UO chapter of Dobro Slovo, the National Slavic Honor Society. Founded at the University of California at Berkeley in 1926, the National Slavic Honor Society has steadily grown into an internationally recognized academic honor society with over 130 local chapters and a distinguished membership of 6,200. Dobro Slovo serves as a means for the recognition of academic excellence in the study of Slavic languages, literature, history and culture. The society encourages scholarly interest in Slavic life and culture.

REEES Theater

Every winter, REEES senior instructor Dr. Julia Nemirovskaya stages a bilingual, Russian-English play that she adapts from Russian literary works or writes herself based on Russian themes. Students who sign up for RUSS 309/609 (Russian Through Theater) learn their lines, make costumes, and coordinate lighting, sound, and stage effects. The program culminates in two gala performances attended by hundreds of audience members from the university and the surrounding community.
