The cinema studies major is distinctive in its integration of critical study and creative production and its strength in global cinemas. To foster a strong cinema community in Eugene and beyond, the Department of Cinema Studies sponsors original programming and collaborates with other departments and organizations in supporting media studies events. From the annual Harlan J. Strauss Visiting Filmmaker Series to working filmmaker and scholar speakers to collaborating with departments and student groups across campus, the Cinema Studies department provides a robust experience for University of Oregon students, faculty, alumni, and the community at large.
Cinema studies majors are encouraged to expand their community connections by:
- Joining student clubs.
- Entering local and national film festivals and competitions, like DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon.
- Studying cinema in Ireland.
- Obtaining internships and jobs
- Gaining experiential learning experience in a variety of paid student positions within the department.
