Study Abroad

Travel and Study Around the World

Every country and culture approaches cinema studies differently. The best way to gain a well-rounded and diverse view of the field is to live and learn in another country. Our department offers a study abroad program in Ireland, during which students can take a deep dive into Irish culture and history, immerse themselves in cinema studies and filmmaking, and create lasting memories.

The Cinema Studies in Dublin program offers two courses that fulfill certain requirements for the major:

  • ODUB 388 CINE Ireland Onscreen - Counts toward Core C. if Core C is already fulfilled, it may also count toward the elective requirement.
  • ODUB 388 CINE Filmmake Ireland - Counts toward either Production A or Production B, depending on the student's needs.

Cinema Studies in Dublin

Students in this five-week program will get to work both critically and creatively, taking a course on contemporary Irish cinema and a course on digital filmmaking. Students will attend their courses at the Irish National Film School in Dún Laoghaire, a beautiful coastal town on the outskirts of Dublin, and live with local families in homestays. Weekly excursions will allow students to learn on location about the country’s rich film history and explore the sites where important historical events, and films about those events, took place. Students will also travel together for a long weekend to attend the annual Film Fleadh, Ireland’s largest Film Festival.
