Research and Production

Participation in research is a vital part of the undergraduate experience at the University of Oregon. Students from across the academic disciplines can be found investigating, discovering, creating, and innovating. Research experiences allow students to explore and clarify their academic and professional goals while developing critical thinking and important workforce skills. In the Department of Theatre Arts, we deeply believe in the value of theatre as both an artistic practice and a cultural intervention. Our research manifests through scholarly projects as well as through theatre production processes. We equally commit to theatre as embodied research that illuminates pathways for personal or community growth.

"I am fortunate that the skills I learned in the Theatre Arts department apply equally to my dual roles in life: working actor and financial professional. I learned to listen, observe, think critically and with imagination, and to give active voice to my thoughts. Whether performing a play on a stage or conveying information in a business meeting, these skills make all the difference. I learned advanced writing and communication techniques and heightened my sense of empathy that guides me every day."
