James Ivory Undergraduate Essay Award
Each year, the Department of Cinema Studies offers the James Ivory Undergraduate Essay Award. This award recognizes undergraduate students who demonstrate extraordinary skill and creativity of research and writing in their term papers.
Award: Up to $500 to top recipients
Deadline: The deadline for student applications and faculty nominations is during spring term.
Cinema Studies Undergraduate Filmmaker Award
This award recognizes undergraduate students whose filmmaking and/or media production explores social justice issues, tells stories that increase the visibility of underrepresented and marginalized identities, and challenges inequality in all its forms. Cinema Studies Society for Cinema and Media Studies Award
The Department of Cinema Studies offers an award to any cinema studies major who presents a paper at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) Undergraduate Conference.
Award: $500
Students are responsible for notifying the Cinema Studies office by emailing cinema@uoregon.edu if their paper is selected to be presented at the SCMS Undergraduate Conference.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
Award: Up to $5,000
Eligibility: Are you planning to study abroad in the next year and have the Pell Grant as part of your FAFSA financial aid? If so, definitely apply to the Gilman Scholarship, available exclusively to Pell Grant recipients.

UO Libraries’ Award for Undergraduate Research Excellence
Award: $1,000–$1,500
UO Libraries Undergraduate Research Excellence Awards (LAURE) recognize students who demonstrate excellent library research skills and high-quality academic work with $1,000 to $1,500 award prizes in two categories:
- Papers and projects from a 300-level or above course completed within a single term.
- Theses or multi-term papers and projects.
The Center for Undergraduate Research and Engagement
The Center for Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE) serves as a campus hub for undergraduate students to pursue advanced learning opportunities in research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. CURE guides and supports exploration efforts, offers funding support for research and experiential learning, and creates opportunities for students to showcase their research on the UO campus, in the Eugene/Springfield community, throughout the state, and nationally.
The Humanities Undergraduate Research Fellowship
The Humanities Undergraduate Research Fellowship program is designed to increase the research opportunities for UO undergraduate students in the academic disciplines associated with the humanities. The program immerses a cohort of students in sixteen weeks of research during the winter and spring terms.
College of Arts and Sciences Scholarships
The College of Arts and Sciences awards various scholarships to both incoming students and those who are already attending the UO, including donor-supported scholarships and fellowships; inclusion scholarships to support students coming to the UO from underrepresented communities; and financial support to assist students in completing an unpaid internship, research opportunity, or service-learning experience.
Financial Aid Department Scholarships
University-wide scholarships are offered centrally through the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. Scholarships are available to incoming students and to those who are already attending the UO and are based on merit, need, or a combination of both.
McNair Scholars Program
The McNair Scholars Program (TRiO) prepares qualified juniors and seniors for graduate study leading to PhD degrees. UO McNair Scholars receive comprehensive support to earn undergraduate degrees, complete research projects in their fields of study, and apply to graduate schools. The program’s limited size provides a close-knit community while helping students gain a broad understanding of research and university culture.
