Departmental Advising and Support

Once you declare a theatre arts major or minor, you will be randomly assigned an advisor. If you indicate any areas of interest on the form, you will be assigned an advisor who specializes in that field; however, all of our theatre arts advisors have great in-depth knowledge of both the program and aspects of theatre arts as a profession.

To find out who your theatre arts advisor is, please log in to your DuckWeb account and select the “General Student Information” section; your advisor will be listed there. Your theatre arts advisor will be assigned within 72 hours of submitting the major or minor declaration form. You are also welcome to change your theatre arts advisor at any point or meet with an instructor who isn’t assigned as your advisor.

Twice a year, theatre arts faculty cancel one day of class meetings to schedule meetings with all advisees, particularly new students to the major. We encourage all theatre arts majors and minors to check in with their academic advisors once a term, especially near the time to register for the next term’s classes (usually starting in Week 8).

Please note that all exceptions to the theatre arts major requirements must be approved by a theatre arts advisor and signed off on by the department head.

Theatre Arts Advisors

All of our Theatre Arts Advisors are well-versed in the requirements to fulfill the requirements of a theater arts major or minor and you can meet with any of them, regardless of your focus area. They are also well-connected to local theatre companies and can help you build your portfolio, prepare for graduate school applications, and give career advice for your future in theatre or other related areas.

The best way to set up an appointment with a theatre arts advisor is via email.
