Minor Requirements

Our minor program is designed mainly for those who think they may want to go on to be teachers (primary or secondary) who would be leading theatre classes or productions for their school. It’s a good “overview” program requiring what we think are the basics of the major and is deliberately flexible enough that you can meet the requirements easily in addition to another major’s requirements. Some students elect to complete a theatre arts minor because it keeps them active in a lifelong creative practice they hope to sustain. Some choose the minor to augment their studies in cinema studies, journalism, music, or dance.

The purpose of the theatre arts minor is to expose the student to a variety of disciplines within theatre and to allow for some specialization. To complete a minor in theatre arts, students must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Grades of C or better in all courses.
  • A minimum of 24 theatre arts credits.
  • At least 16 credits of upper division theatre arts courses taken at the University of Oregon.
  • At least one course in each of the following categories: performance, literature/criticism, technical theatre, and theatre history.
