Why Study Philosophy?

Our thriving undergraduate program includes a major and minor in philosophy as well as a minor in ethics. Throughout our undergraduate curriculum, we encourage our students to become engaged, reflective citizens, and lifelong learners while preparing them for careers in government, law, the non-profit sector, business, or higher education.

Major in Philosophy

Engaged thinking and integrated pluralism characterize philosophy at the University of Oregon. With one major concentration and two minors to choose from, students can design a course of study that aligns with their desired career path.

Honors in Philosophy

The philosophy honors program is designed to provide outstanding and highly motivated philosophy majors with the opportunity to develop their skills during their senior year through the independent exploration of a special topic of their own choosing under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Get Real-World Experience

Philosophy majors can gain experiential learning experience in their fields of interest through study abroad programs and other opportunities outside the classroom. Take short-term intensive language courses, or, if you have the required language skills, consider studying philosophy in another country for a year.
