Publications and Creative Work

University of Oregon students can take advantage of a variety of opportunities to share their original research or creative work. Undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Theatre Arts are encouraged to participate in on-campus research symposiums or submit their work for publication.

New Voices Playwriting Competition

The Department of Theatre Arts seeks student submissions of previously unpublished, never produced, play scripts. Submissions will be reviewed anonymously by a panel comprised of faculty members from the Department of Theatre Arts and invited graduates and undergraduate judges.

Prizes

A concert reading of the winning script(s) during the spring term and a fully rehearsed production in the Hope Theatre. This will be done with the full support of the Department of Theatre Arts and directed by a faculty member during winter term. If selected for production, the show will be a participating entry in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF) and the scripts will be submitted to the KC/ACTF for consideration in play award categories.

Guidelines

This competition is open to all theatre arts undergraduates and graduate students at UO. Students are encouraged to enroll in TA 409 (practicum) for fall term. Playscripts must be full length, 30-90 pages, with no more than nine characters. Also, the play must be unpublished, unproduced, and free of royalty and copyright restrictions. Plays which have had previous workshop readings or Pocket Playhouse productions are acceptable. No musical or screenplays will be accepted.

Playwrights may submit only one script.

Scripts are judged anonymously. Authors must REMOVE all identifiable information from scripts for their work to be considered.
