Teaching Assistant Program in Spain
Through the North American Language and Culture Assistants Program (NALCAP), college students and graduates who are native-like speakers of English can partner with elementary and secondary schools in Spain to bolster language programs, as language assistants under the supervision and guidance of teachers in Spain.
Placements are offered across Spain, in practically every city and town in the country, running from October 1 to May 31 for most assignments. Short-term contracts and/or alternative starting dates are unfortunately not available. Depending on the assigned region, NALCAP recipients receive a monthly stipend of 800 to 1000 euros and medical insurance from either the Ministry of Education of Spain or the regional governments of Spain. Hours of assistant teaching range from 14 to 16 hours per week, depending on the assignment awarded.

Each year for the past several years we have sent three or four students on this internship. Many sign up for a second year, and you can contact current or former program participants to hear about their experience.
The Department of Romance Languages does not administer the program, but the Italian sector is required to rank the applicants on the basis of several factors (including language ability, teaching experience, maturity and professionalism). Italian faculty offer information and advice on the application process and the program itself. If you are a senior and if you are interested in applying, please read the website for the SITE program in Lombardy.
The requirements for the Piemonte program are very similar but the application process is less formal. Typically the on-campus deadline is March 1, and the formal application deadline is March 15.
