Minor Requirements

Students may earn a minor in French, Italian, or Spanish by completing 28 GRADED credits, passed with C- or better, in one language area. Internship credits, always taken Pass/No Pass, DO NOT apply toward major or minor requirements.

French and Francophone Studies Minor

Upper-Division Courses in French Taught in French 

24 graded, upper-division credits from the following:

  • 300-level FR courses (301-399, excluding FR 361)
  • 400-level FR courses (407, 410-499)

*12 credits must be upper-division French courses taught by UO faculty (in-residence or on approved study abroad/away)

*FR 307 is worth 2 credits and can be taken twice.

Electives

4 graded, upper-division credits in literature, linguistics, film, grammar, culture, etc. Must be taught in the target language and address the target culture. 

*Electives may include FR 150, FR 203, or any upper-division FR courses taught in French.

 

Italian Minor

20 (twenty) graded credits, taught in Italian, from the following:  
  • ITAL: 201, 202, 203 (or equivalent study abroad credits), ITAL 301 or above. 
8 (eight) graded credits from the following:
  • ITAL 150, ITAL 151, RL 151, any ITAL 300-level or above. Approved RL 300 or RL 400 courses (check with an advisor).  
Additional requirements: 

• Minimum 16 credits must be taken with UO faculty (in residence or study abroad/away).  

• Minimum 12 credits must be upper division. 

 

Spanish Minor

Courses used to fulfill the minor requirements must be taken for a letter grade and passed with a grade of C-or better. Coursework transferred in from Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exams are acceptable with a mark of P*. Further details are available on the department website.

Upper-division SPAN courses taught in Spanish (24 credits)

*Elective course (4 credits) may include SPAN 150, 203, 228, 238, 248, LAS 200, HIST 248, or any upper-division SPAN course taught in
Spanish.

  • 300-level SPAN courses (301-399)
  • 400-level SPAN courses (407, 410-499)
